About the location

POOLEY BRIDGE

Penrith 6 miles.

The picturesque village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed. There are numerous walks with breathtaking views nearby, plus a short walk up to Dunmallard Hill reveals fascinating Iron-Age remains, whilst the towns of Penrith and Keswick are within driving distance. Pooley Bridge is an ideal base for a cottage holiday stay in the stunning Lake District. There is a new bridge replacing this bridge in Autumn 2019 from the after effects of the flood damage in 2015.

About the location

POOLEY BRIDGE

Penrith 6 miles.

The village of Pooley Bridge is at the northern extremity of the lake, just one mile from Park Foot. Its narrow bridge straddles the River Eamont as it flows out of Ullswater. It is overlooked by Dunmallard Hill which was the site of an Iron Age fort. For much of its length Ullswater forms the border between the ancient counties of Cumberland and Westmorland. A new stainless steel bridge will be replacing the temporary one in Pooley Bridge from Autumn 2019. The work is scheduled to be completed by Easter 2020.

The best toilet and shower facilities I have ever seen on a camping site. The staff were all very nice. It is set in the most idyllic scenery. It is also very reasonably priced both to stay and in the clubhouse and shop. Definitely be back soon!!!read more

Great place, the site is massive and from the furthest point I would say it's only 15 minutes stroll to the village, Park foot clubhouse is brilliant and there are 3 pubs in the village where you can see the other 2 when standing at one. The Park Foot shop sells everything you could possibly need. And the village shop is pretty much the same.read more

Huge thanks to all at Parkfoot for providing Alex and Sian Johnson with Seat Farm Lakeside Field as the stunning backdrop to their wedding day on 24th August 2019. Apart from the fact we had the hottest weekend of the year and we chose Bakerwood Marquees & Events Ltd who added fabulous food and glamour to the occasion, the location just blew our wedding guests away. The memories of this beautiful day will stay with Alex and Sian and all of us forever. Seat Farm Lakeside Field you were fabulous! Park Foot Caravan Park even more so!! This was a great site. My fiat time here and a boiling hot bank holiday weekend. The site was clean noise was at a minimum from 11pm. The toilets were kept clean. And security presence on the site which made me feel slightly more at ease. The only thing I would have preferred was more showers that had slightly more water pressure on the lower Fields. The food in the take away was delicious and served quickly. The play grounds on site my kids loves and the shop there has absolutely everything in it.read more

highly recommended; we arrived Friday teatime and left lunchtime Monday with 9 adults, 4 children and 4 dogs. The site is big and has so much for both children and adults; we ate & drank in the clubhouse once and ordered from the takeaway once both nice meals. We were in the field closest to the lake; we went in for a paddle and also walked into pooley bridge which is a nice bridge. The only downside would be no lighting once it has gone dark, so literally pitch black so walking to the shower blocks was an adventure during the night.read more

Just returned from a magical week at park foot 😍we're used to basic camping but our young son needs more for him and this is what we got here! Fantastic facilities from super clean and posh wash/shower/toilet areas all over the park, top quality and very fairly priced food in the restaurant and a treat for us is the takeaway selling proper restaurant pizzas and posh burgers that we sat and ate outside the tent looking at beautiful lake ullswater from our vantage point up in lake view field ( big hill to get the heart pumping to walk up and quite hilly so careful tent positioning a must, but worth it for the lake view 😍), fully stocked shop that's got everything you may forget, fresh croissants, 🥖 & pan au chocolates and a huge freezer with bags of ice ( again, another treat to have cold drinks at the tent), two well stocked parks for the kids and the Brook running straight through the main meeting area is perfect for young children to enjoy a bit of safe and fun freedom! When I've finished unpacking and I've had a good scrub up I'm getting next year's holiday booked here and can't wait to return!read more

Had an amazing bank holiday weekend away, no issues at all! The only thing I would say was the service at the country clubhouse. We went for breakfast this morning around 10am, and the girl on the till was so unbelievably rude I couldn’t believe it! I asked for a small breakfast with veggie sausage to which she replied with “well I’ll put it through as a veggie breakfast but I don’t know how it’s gonna come.” She didn’t smile once. Really bad service!Everything else was fantastic and will definitely be back!!read more

Wonderful campsite. This is our 4th visit to parkfoot, we always come the week before the August bank holiday and we absolutely love it. We camp on the eusrigg field as it’s close to the lake. The views are stunning, pooley bridge is only a 15 minute walk along the lake. The shop has everything you need and while some things are over priced, all in all it has a good selection of things you may need. The club house is good and the arcade doesn’t have a lot to offer but the parks are great although there tends to be large groups of children that gather together which can be a little intimidating for younger children but security are always around keeping an eye on things. Our children (age 14, 11, 10, 9 & 2) all love it and there’s enough to keep them entertained, and being on the eusrigg field (which is about a 10 minute walk to the main park) means we gets a good balance of the facilities they offer and good old fashioned camping away from the hustle and bustle. The takeaway is delicious (pizzas average around £9)Showers are clean and the toilet and washing facilities are good and well maintained. Fabulous campsite. Highly recommend. Always sad to leave. Excellent location, highly recommendable and facilities are very good. We have stayed three times this year and have already found our ideal camping spot. We do think there needs to be another toilet/shower block in the field over the road due to the sheer volume of people staying, it’s never been a problem for us as we are early birds but have seen the queues for showers. This wouldn’t distract us from staying though.read more

just got back from a 2 night stay and although I couldn't fault the park as it was clean and tidy and we all had an amazing couple of days despite the weather I was disappointed that the field we stayed on the toilets were locked so had to walk all the way to main toilets from bottom field with little children I only stayed on that field as the toilets are so close. then when I went to reception to pay for our pitch we were told that you were supposed to book which I never have done in the past and that there was a lot due to arrive on that field on the sat which was not the case as not one other person arrived by the time we left on sunday the field was empty. The attitude of the receptionist was quite rude and disgusting to be truthful she is definatly not a people person and made me feel like a naughty school child. also when we went into the club house on the night there were people in there with dogs which I personally did not like as there was children running around playing and 2 dogs got quite aggressive towards each other and it made me feel quite scared to have the children play in there. and the toilets in the clubhouse seriously need a good clean as they stink of urine really badly. the amusements also need some maintaince as most were out of order and the ones that were working kept breaking down. couldn't fault the lake and the surrounding area the play area all were brilliant.read more

Just back from a 5 night visit at park foot. Great value. Great location. Loads to do nearby and easy access to pooley bridge. The takeaway is defiantly worth a visit great pizzas. Toilets were immaculate and clean but were only were one blocks and there should be a bridge over the valley in front of the toilet blocks to give better access from sites on fields opposite toilet block. May e have more individual toilets on the other camp fields. Only other thing there should be camping on grass and parking on gravel. Not the other way round. There was fresh bread made to order in the local shop, lots of fresh food to purchase too. There was 2 parks one for under 8’s the other for older which worked well. We stayed two nights Friday and Saturday. Not the first time we have stayed there with our two children. Beautiful place and great facilities. As the weather was very on and off the pitch was extremely boggy where we were but couldn't be helped. The only little complaint I had was on the Saturday I'd promised my girls who are only 2yrs and 4yrs a disco (like last time) so we headed up where it was set up ready but the dj didn't do any show as 'there weren't enough children' when we had counted 20-30 kids. We stayed for 4 nights til Monday gone. Fantastic site! Brilliant for kids! Clean, tidy and great facilities! We have 4 children from 2 to 14 years and each one of them loved it! It does get pretty busy over weekends and can get a little noisy with people going past midnight. We just took it in our stride, we kept ourselves busy through the day and the kids slept soundly. We will definitely be returning! Best site we've visited! One small complaint is how long you have to wait for food. We went for breakfast one morning a little later (10:30) and thought it would be less busy. I saw there was loads of food ready and in heating trays on the counter. However we were told we would have to wait 45 minutes for a few breakfasts. We just left and made our own. The staff seemed miserable as sin too. Was worried after reading some reviews before we set off last week but we've just returned from a week in our caravan at Park Foot and we all had a great time. There were a lot of tents in the lower field so can see why people were put off by this and that noise levels were a problem but luckily we didn't experience this. Park Foot is a lovely, clean site very close to the Lake. The shop was well stocked with a vast selection but doesn't have a licence to sell alcohol so would advise to bring your own or you would have to buy from the bar which could work out expensive. The bar and restaurant was lovely, staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely be returning again.read more

We have just got home after 4 days camping. Our group consisted of 5 adults, 5 children. We were pitched in a perfect spot, next to a running stream, close to pot wash, entertainment/restaurant and not to far away from toilets. We can't fault the camp or facilities. Everything was how it should be and we all had an amazing time. This is a family campsite so as expected you can hear children enjoying their freedom and holiday as much as the adults. I've noticed some people have commented on the noise level. The only thing we heard were children making holiday memories, which was fine by us. There are two children's parks on site as well as tennis courts which we took advantage of. The surrounding areas are just breathtaking, you won't be disappointed. The lake is a short walk away and can be seen from the pitches. We will definitely be back next year. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.read more

Fantastic site first time visiting tonight .. blonde girl on reception was a bit give or take and the fish from the take away seemed like birds eye frozen stuff but that wasn't going to ruin our time (even if it was raining) pitch we found was great located right next to the park on the raised ground, everyone we have spoke to was really friendly see how the noise goes tonight though Views are amazing .. top site !read more

After cutting our stay a day short, I would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff at the park foot for a warm welcome and a fabulous experience of the lake and it's surroundings. We all throughly loved our selves and will be returning back there again. All complaints was dealt with ASAP without a fuss. The only problem we had was on Saturday night when the field we were in was a rave field even after the warden came round and asked nicely to keep the noise down and didn't, so I think it would be better if the warden came round the second time just to double check on things but other than that it's a fantastic place to stay. Thanks again hope to see you soon.read more

Stayed this weekend and had a lovely time, there was a group of us some couples and us with small children. We opted for the overflow field although another 2 minutes walk from the main facilities we had space for the kids and us to play ball games (all purchased from the shop), the kids could run free in the field but always be in eye sight most importantly we had peace and a cracking view of the lake. Thoroughly enjoyed our selves and are planning a return trip in august.read more

What a fantastic site! We have just returned from our first ever camping trip. We stayed at Lake View and it was lovely and quiet with a stunning view of Ullswater. Facilities were modern and kept clean. Bins were emptied regularly and even the walls were wiped down! Regular patrols on the campsite to check everything was in order - good. The Clubhouse has obviously just been refurbished and is a great place. There are phone charging points in the booths by the windows. I highly recommend the pizzas! All in all a fantastic well kept site in a stunning location! Will definitely be returning!!! Thank you!read more

My husband and I arrived on Monday we actually thought we'd booked somewhere else! Needless to say it was a mistake which we were over the moon with. We had an electric pitch for our tent. Shower block and toilets were clean, the bar had recently been renovated and barstaff were very friendly, and to say the shop catered for everything is an understatement. We were really impressed and will definitely be going back.read more

Well maintained site; large, clean facilities. Lots of room for kids to play and close to some great walks. Easy attitude and very welcoming to families with kids - their "off site by 11" rule was flexible to cater for the kids' assisted pack up (which took considerably longer than it should).Only downside were grumpy guests with no kids having unrealistic expectations of what kids should and shouldn't be doing, despite them being well behaved and adhering to the few site rules. Not really the site's fault and that's life outside of the camp as well!!Definitely returning.read more

Some bad reviews on here so felt a little wary arriving on Friday night but I don't think we could fault the place. Excellent friendly staff, very clean and tidy, really nice food also very reasonable prices. The bar staff don't leave you standing more than a few seconds even with a full club house, excellent service. Great shower rooms always clean. The most well stocked shop I've ever seen on a campsite. As for noise, there was a little bit on our first night but nothing that really bothered us and on the second night we all slept like babies. Would definitely use again if we come over that way Thank you for a great weekend read more

Been camping this weekend for the first time ever and loved it! - No complaints whatsoever about the Parkfoot Site, it was lovely! Small shop for anything needed quick in the morning, restaurant onsite by reception, toilets & showers are kept clean (I was terrified they were going to be like porta-loos & was pleasantly surprised & relieved that they weren't!) The staff were all very friendly & helpful too. The breakfast in the restaurant was delicious & the evening meal we had was superb too - everyone really enjoyed their food (including the little 2 year old that came with us who can be extremely fussy sometimes!) She had a great time paddling in the lake right next to the camp site along with the other children (it was her first time camping as well as my own!) We all had a really really good weekend & would definitely come back in future 🙂 xxxread more

We stayed here in May for a couple of nights and was really happy with the site and the friendly staff, You are designated a plot on arrival and the facilities are plentyfull and spottless clean; and I do believe the stone shower blocks are under floor heated? The shop is very usefull and well stocked (camping accesories, local produce etc)The Steam boat to Glenbrittle is only a 30 minute walk so we were able to keep our car on site and go exploring on foot.I have recommended this place and although I do like to travel to differnet areas and see what UK has to offer I can say we shall return here againread more
